Presenter: Dr. Clare Robinson, P.Eng., Civil and Environmental Engineering, Western University

Title: Freshwater Salinization from De-Icing Salts: The Influence of Stormwater Management Approaches

Abstract: Winter de-icing salt applications are causing elevated chloride concentrations in groundwater and surface waters, with several adverse consequences, including acute and chronic risks to aquatic ecosystem health. This presentation will provide an overview of multiple field projects evaluating how different stormwater management approaches influence the magnitude and timing of the salinization of urban freshwaters.
