Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS)

CGS Mission Statement

To initiate and pursue efforts leading to the technical competence and excellence of Canadian geotechnical and related geoscience professionals.

About CGS National

The Canadian Geotechnical Society is a learned, self-governing and non-profit organization with the following objectives:

Objectives

  • To provide opportunities to continue their education by upgrading their skills, and to document their efforts.
  • To provide opportunities for presenting and publishing results of research, design and construction.
  • To provide opportunities to meet, exchange views and experience, establish networks and socialize.
  • To develop co-operation with appropriate national and international organizations.
  • To represent Canada nationally and internationally.
  • To address issues and needs with respect to research in Canada.
  • To produce publications for members and other professionals.
  • To develop, maintain and improve communications among geotechnical professionals in Canada.

Sections, Divisions, and Committees

The CGS has 20 sections across Canada, where members can meet and interact with other geotechnical professionals. Sections organize and promote CGS activities at the local level, including monthly meetings, technical seminars and mini-conferences, and social events.

The CGS has seven technical divisions to provide forums for members to pursue selected and special technical or professional interests, as well as seven standing committees that provide forums for activities and issues of importance to members.
